Lions help serve a local community devastated by a tornado
Dr. W.P. Woods of Evansville, IN is listed as the President of Lions Clubs International when they were founded in 1917. Dr. Woods had started multiple clubs when Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman, started looking for a service centered organization which he and his fellow businessman could join. Melvin Jones became the first secretary-treasurer, a title held for life.
There are currently 1.39 Million Lions serving throughout the world. In the United States, we have over 255,000 Lions in over 9600 clubs. Indiana has 5300 Lions in 160 Clubs.
